Hope. Community. Practical Support.
The Brightest Light Initiative is a year-round community outreach program of Forrest Memorial Christian Center, serving approximately 400 children, families, seniors, and individuals annually throughout Pittsburg, Bay Point, and Antioch.
Grounded in the spirit of Matthew 25:35 — “For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was a stranger and you welcomed me” — we believe that faith in action means showing up for our neighbors not just on Sundays, but every month, in every season, with practical resources that make a real difference.
What We Do
Every month, the Brightest Light Initiative hosts a Bright Days community event — a welcoming gathering where families can access the resources they need to get through today and build toward tomorrow
Groceries & Household Essentials
Participants receive groceries, household supplies, hygiene products, and everyday necessities — practical items that ease the financial pressure many families face each month.
Educational Workshops
We offer workshops on financial literacy, employment readiness, and life skills designed to help families build long-term stability and self-sufficiency.
Community Resource Navigation
Resource navigators connect participants to housing, health, employment, education, and other supportive services — helping people access the deeper support they may need.
Youth Leadership Development
Approximately 20 youth volunteers are recruited, trained, and deployed at each Bright Days event. These young people develop leadership skills, workplace readiness, and a lifelong commitment to community service.
Community Partnerships
We work alongside local churches, nonprofits, businesses, and schools to coordinate resources and expand the reach of every event. Together, we are stronger.
Who We Serve
The Brightest Light Initiative is open to anyone in our community who needs support. We serve:
- Families experiencing financial hardship due to unemployment, underemployment, or rising living costs
- Low- to moderate-income households struggling to meet basic needs such as food and household supplies
- Seniors living on fixed incomes who would benefit from supplemental food, household assistance, or social support
- Youth seeking positive community engagement, leadership development, and workforce-readiness opportunities
- Individuals facing unexpected hardship, crises, or economic challenges
Our Story
The Brightest Light Initiative grew out of something we witnessed firsthand. Last year, Forrest Memorial partnered with Eikon Church on our annual holiday toy drive — and we made one addition: household essentials. Hygiene products, heaters, fans, bikes, and everyday necessities.
The response was overwhelming. Families told us they needed these items even more than the toys. That response confirmed what we had long believed: our community needs more than seasonal help once a year.
They need consistent, dignified support — month after month. The Brightest Light Initiative is our answer to that need. It is faith in action. It is neighbors showing up for neighbors. And it is just getting started.
The Need in Our Community
The families and individuals we serve face real, documented challenges:
- More than half of renters in Antioch and Pittsburg are housing-cost burdened, spending at least 30% of their income on rent
- Food insecurity among low-income Bay Area residents has increased significantly in recent years
- Many families face the compounding effects of unemployment, underemployment, and rising costs with little safety net
These are not abstract statistics. These are our neighbors. And they deserve more than a temporary fix — they deserve consistent support, community connection, and pathways to stability. That is exactly what the Brightest Light Initiative is designed to provide.
