There is a moment at every Bright Days event when you see it: a mother exhaling with relief as she picks up groceries. A senior smiling because someone remembered that she needed more than just food — she needed to feel seen. A teenager discovering, for the first time, what it feels like to give rather than just receive.

That moment does not happen by itself. It happens because people like you showed up.

At Forrest Memorial’s Brightest Light Initiative, volunteers are the backbone of every Bright Days event. Whether you have two hours or a full day, there is a meaningful role for you:

  • Event setup and breakdown — preparing the space so every participant feels welcomed and respected
  • Resource distribution — handing out groceries, household essentials, and hygiene products with care and dignity
  • Resource navigation — helping participants connect with information about housing, employment, health, and community services
  • Workshop support — assisting with financial literacy, employment readiness, and life-skills sessions
  • Youth Corps leadership — mentoring younger volunteers and modeling what servant leadership looks like

The Brightest Light Initiative is building a youth volunteer corps of approximately 20 students from local high schools and colleges. This is more than an opportunity to serve — it is an opportunity to grow.

Youth volunteers in our corps will:

  • Receive structured training in community service, leadership, and workplace readiness
  • Earn volunteer hours for school, college applications, and community service requirements
  • Develop teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills through real-world service
  • Be mentored by church leaders and community partners who are invested in their futures
  • Build a record of meaningful community involvement that lasts well beyond any single event

Everyone is welcome. You do not need to be a member of Forrest Memorial Christian Center to volunteer. You do not need special skills or prior experience. You need only a willing heart and a desire to serve your neighbors.

We welcome:

  • Individuals and families
  • High school and college students
  • Church groups, nonprofits, and community organizations
  • Corporate teams looking for meaningful service opportunities
  • Seniors who want to give back to the community that has given to them

Reaching out is simple. Contact us through our website, email us at fmccevents@yahoo.com, or visit us on Sunday at 12:30 PM at 1279 Railroad Avenue, Pittsburg, CA 94565. Tell us you want to volunteer, and we will take it from there.
